2013 Panasonic ET60 3D HDTV Speaker control

by Max4545--2008 / May 2, 2013 4:39 AM PDT

Hello, I just purchased a new Panasonic ET60 3D HDTV. I am using it with a Sony Digital A/V Reciever via SPDIF Optical Out audio. I need to turn off the TVs internal speakers - (so proper 5.1 surround output can happen for Media Player files). Seems to be no menu item I can find to do it. (Unless you have a Panny VieraLink supported AV receiver). Anyone know how to turn off internal TV speakers in menu ?

Thanks - Max

I see post at Panasonic Web site. There is no way to turn the speakers off with Optical Digital Output only ! You must turn the volume to zero (the mute function shows an icon on the screen)... the function was there with 2012 models, now its gone with 2013 models... go figure.

You can try select VARIABLE in the OUTPUT menu. That mutes the internal speakers and allows the remote to control the audio level of an outboard sound system.
