If you want a laptop for just the basics like checking your email, browsing the web, streaming shows and movies and not too much else, you're really better off with a Chromebook. They're simple, user-friendly and often discounted.

Right now, Woot is offering deals on a small number of refurbished HP, Samsung and Lenovo Chromebooks, with all prices ranging from $50 to $90. These deals are available until 9:59 p.m. PT on Oct. 11 (12:59 a.m. ET on Oct. 12), and some models may sell out before then.

According to Woot, refurbished items may show some signs of wear and tear, but they have all been inspected and returned to full working condition. All the Chromebooks in this sale also include Woot's 90-day limited warranty, so you're covered in case you run into any issues in the first three months.

When shopping for any Chromebook, it's important to note that each model has its own Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date. You can still use the device after that date, but Google will no longer provide support or updates, including security updates. Check out Google's full list of AUE dates before buying because some models have passed their expiration. You'll find there -- and listed prominently on the Woot product pages -- that the three Lenovo models offered as part of this sale are already at their "EOL [end of life] and no longer receiving ChromeOS updates." This means their AUE dates have passed.

That said, the HP and Samsung models on sale are slated to get updates through June 2026 and June 2027, respectively:

  • At $70, the HP Chromebook 11A G8 Education Edition has an 11.6-inch 720p screen and an AMD processor. It's got 32GB of storage on-board, plus a microSD slot if you need more space. This is very much a basic model, and the small size might make it a good option for younger kids.
  • At $90, the Samsung Chromebook 4 is the most expensive and most advanced model you'll find at this sale. It's equipped with a dual-core Intel Celeron N4000 and comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. It also has an 11.6-inch LCD display and 12.5 hours of battery life. At just 2.6 pounds. it's also easy to take on the go.

Correction at 9:30 a.m. PT Oct. 9: The time that the sale ends has been fixed.
Update at 11:43 a.m. PT Oct. 9: Additional context added to AUE dates.
Update at 8:36 a.m. PT Oct. 10: Laptops on sale that are beyond their AUE dates have been removed from the story.
