Netflix 'Just for Kids' section debuts on Xbox 360
Titles selected by Netflix for kids and families will now be available through the Netflix app on Microsoft's game console.
Parents and children can now more easily find kid-friendly Netflix content on the Xbox 360.
Available starting today, Netflix's "Just for Kids" section now appears as a special page accessible through the gaming console's Netflix app.
Geared for children 12 and under, the section offers rows of TV shows and movies organized by genre, such as comedies and animated films. The section also displays characters meant for kids, including Barney, Miley Cyrus, Power Rangers, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Dora the Explorer.
The movies and shows displayed through Just for Kids are all available for streaming. So kids who want to watch their favorite Barney episode don't have to wait for it to arrive in the mail. And the more that children use the section, the better Netflix will understand their tastes and suggest more titles they might enjoy.
Netflix works with the nonprofit group Common Sense Media to choose the tiles, in an effort to ensure that children can use the section on their own without seeing any inappropriate content.
The video rental company launched the Just for Kids section a year ago. It's currently available on PCs, Macs, the Nintendo Wii, Sony's PlayStation 3, Apple TV, and certain Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, and streaming-media players. Neflix also plans to add the section to tablets sometime this year.
"We believe that we can make all the entertainment you love even more amazing with Xbox," Ross Honey, general manager for Xbox Live Entertainment & Advertising at Microsoft, said in a statement. "Using voice and gesture control with Kinect to explore 'Just for Kids' makes Netflix on Xbox 360 more personal and engaging for all audiences."
