Google Maps adds Waze traffic reports
The mobile versions of Google Maps now blend in traffic data from Waze, while Waze users gain Google Street View and satellite images.
Google Maps users can now get help avoiding traffic jams and mishaps courtesy of Waze.
The iOS and Android versions of Google Maps now incorporate real-time traffic reports from Waze users.
Waze, which Google bought in June specifically to improve its mapping service, taps into crowdsourcing to compile traffic updates reported by its users.
"This means when Wazers report accidents, construction, road closures, and more on Waze, the updates will also appear on the Google Maps app for Android and iOS in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, UK, and the US," Google said in a blog posted Tuesday.
The hook-up with Google benefits Waze users as well.
Google Search is now part of the iOS and Android versions of Waze, giving users more search results. The Waze Map Editor has added Google Street View and satellite images to help people create more accurate maps.
