Why You Can Trust CNET Batman: The Animated Series grapples onto Blu-ray in October
The release has been delayed by two weeks, but it'll come with a digital copy and Warner Bros. has shown off the remastered opening sequence.
In addition to the show and movies, the box set comes with three Funko Pops and seven lenticular art cards. It will cost $113.
Batman: The Animated Series will take down Gotham's criminal underworld in remastered 1080p, with the arrival of a Blu-ray box set on Oct. 30.
The box set -- dubbed Batman: The Complete Animated Series -- includes remastered versions of the original show's 85 episodes, the 24 episodes of The New Batman Adventures follow-up, along with movies Mask of the Phantasm and Mr. Freeze: Sub Zero.
The release date was initially announced as Oct. 16 during the show's 25th anniversary panel at Comic-Con 2018 in July, but it was pushed back two weeks on Tuesday. Warner Bros. also revealed that it'll come with a digital copy and showed off the remastered version of the opening title.
The special features include a new 60-minute documentary called The Heart of Batman, more than 20 featurettes covering various aspects of the show, introductions to five episodes from producer Bruce Timm and audio commentaries from members of the production team for 12 episodes.
The trio of Funko Pops just scream "Buy me." Except the Joker, he looks a little terrifying.
In terms of physical extras, the set will include a trio of Funko Pops (Batman, Harley Quinn and Joker) and seven lenticular art cards.
The box set is available to preorder on Amazon for $113. It's limited to 30,000 copies, more than 2,000 of which were preordered within 24 hours of it going up on Amazon.
"Batman: The Animated Series set the standard for super hero animation for decades to come, and we're proud to present this remastered box set to allow new generations -- and the series' vast, avid fanbase -- to enjoy this landmark entertainment in the highest quality possible," said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's vice president of family and animation marketing.
If you don't want to shell out for the Blu-rays, the show will also be available on the DC Universe subscription streaming service, which was unveiled at Comic-Con.
The initial series, which starred Kevin Conroy as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Mark Hamill as the Joker, ran from 1992 to 1995 and continued with a tweaked art style as The New Batman Adventures from 1997 to 1999.
It spawned Superman, Justice League and a futuristic follow-up known as Batman Beyond in an animated DC universe that lasted until 2006.
CNET's Roger Cheng argued that DC won this year's Comic-Con with its teases for Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 1984.
