AltaVista searches take a short cut

CMGI-owned search engine AltaVista has unveiled a new service that attempts to make Web searches more relevant. Called AltaVista Short Cuts, the technology searches specific online content providers and Web indexes. For example, when someone enters a Web search for a city, Short Cuts presents detailed information about the location such as maps, weather, news and directory listings. The Short Cuts results are presented on the first page of the search results.
