We recap all the announcements from Apple's WWDC keynote, especially ruminating on what the tethering app will cost for AT&T customers. We also rant a bit about the new prices for current iPhone conferences. And don't forget Snow Leopard people. That looks like a good upgrade for a very affordable price.

Hey Buzz Crew
Apple selling the OS X upgrade at $29.00 is obviously a stab at Microsoft. According to Paul Thurotte on Windows weekly, Microsoft planned on selling the Windows 7 upgrade between $79, for the basic edition, to over $200, for the ultimate edition. Now Microsoft has 2 choices.
Choice 1: Sell Windows 7 at a similarly low price. This means that Microsoft would have to sell many more copies than they originally planned in order to get a good return on their investment.
Choice 2: Sell Windows 7 at their original target price. As soon as they would announce these prices, Apple would put new commercials of PC vs MAC where they would compare their prices and show that Windows is more expensive than Mac. This would be a stab directly at Microsoft’s current “I’m a PC” ads showing that Macs are too expensive.
Either way, Apple has put Microsoft in a position that they did not want to be in. After the Vista PR nightmare, the upgrade to Windows 7 is the most anticipated Windows upgrade since going from 3.1 to 95. Apple had to try to take that away from Microsoft.
Love the Show.

Guys,
I am sold on the 3GS. The feature set is a rock solid upgrade and kills
almost all the reasons a Palm Pre would be in the running. Still, the
weak link is AT & T, which I hate. But, I hate all carriers, so it is a
wash. Some of the limitations that ATT will put on the phone’s
usability, like tethering, will be negated by the jailbreaking
community, who will enable it. I doubt we will see a Pre jailbreaking
community. So, I still say that the only answer for Sprint (not Palm,
because they will be spreading the device over other carriers) is to
become the value brand. Offer better data packages and cheaper plans.
Otherwise, they are toast when the Pre hits Verizon.
Respectfully,
Clayton

Hi Buzz crew,
I just went to the Carphone Warehouse, here in the UK, to try to get
my iPhone screen fixed. They told me not to bother because a new
iPhone is coming out in July, with 64 GB storage, video playback and a
3.2 MP camera confirmed and possibly more to come. This new iPhone is
going to be deemed as a gaming device as well as a phone and the
Carphone Warehouse have been told to push it is a gaming device when
it is released in July.
Just thought you guys might want to know,
Matt from London.

Hi Buzzcrew,
I usually refrain from emailing since I am in Hong Kong and I get the
podcast a day later than broadcasted. By then, any “Well actually’s”
have usually been already addressed by other members of Buzz town.
In relation to episode 971 and 969 regarding turning phones into wifi
hotspots, Joikuspot has long been a reliable way to turn any Symbian
phone into a wifi hotspot. I tried the program and it works exactly
as advertised. It has wep but not wpa, but setting it all up is easy
and it simply works. You have full control over who is active on your
hotspot.
The only complaint is that on my Nokia E66 it eats up a whole day’s
worth of battery in about 4 hours.
I have to add, I am a little surprised that the tethering on the Palm
Pre is so often discussed, all Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones comes
with PC Suite which allows you to access the internet on your computer
via the phone’s 3G connection. Are you talking about so other kind of
tethering? Or is this feature disabled on US phones?
Love the show,

Listening to episode 970. I’m not a trucker, but I’ve known a few in my life. You’d be surprised how many of those guys and gals have laptops as their only computer and it’s right there in the cab with them. Since there are cabins in the back, some even have full desktop machines built-in to the bunk area with an inverter for power. I don’t know how things are in California, but here on the East coast, those folks are quite wired. They’ve been using GPS, mobile phones, etc., because they have to have communication with the home office and their homes.
Love the show!

Hey Buzz Out Loud Gang,
This is Silas from SoCal, and I just wanted to let you know that there is more than one high school robotics team which listens to your podcast! I am a Junior at La Canada High and the Drive Captain for team 2429. This was only are second year competing; however, in our first year we won the Rookie All Star Award and went to nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. This year we tried to win the Chairman’s Award, but our relatively young age as a team held us back. Maybe next year
Our whole team listens to BOL as we work on our robot after school everyday, and I must say, we were all very shocked to hear another team listening. So in the spirit of “gracious professionalism” GO RUSH 27 and 2429!
love the show,
Silas the Pyro
P.S. If you read this on the show, we will put a sticker for “Buzz Out Loud” on our robot and send in a picture!

Rating ads on CNET
Hello —
In episode 740 you discussed the “new” idea of giving feedback on ads.
HELLO? Do you not know that the CNET BOL page has already had this
feature for some time? In spite of what Tom says “you will do”, I have
given positive feedback on the ads I find unobtrusive and/or clever, as
well as ranting about annoying ads. (especially the ones where I’ve
accidentally activated a pop-up by mousing over the ad. GRRRR– I
refuse to read ads that do this!!!)
Of course I’ve done the verboten “pause podcast” to write this, so I
hope you didn’t mention this later in the show.
