XCAR: Jaguar Project 7: Celebrating the D-Type turning 60

4:17 /

Jaguar will be producing 250 Project 7s, a modified version of the F-Type, to celebrate the 60th birthday of the iconic D-Type. We took a closer look to see how tribute has been paid to Jaguar's heritage.

[MUSIC] Project 7 was revealed to the world almost exactly a year ago, good with last year, it was a concept car, and a concept car only. It was never intended for production. It got a great reception from the public and the internals alike. One day one of our designers, Chezar word, happened to draw on the outside blake word. A d type with the [INAUDIBLE] in the back, sort of detail. We're always doing these sort of things. It's all part of the fun. And and that's what inspired us to do this car. It's about paring it back down to the simplicity of a road car, of a racecar that is just simply there to be enjoyed, to enjoy driving it and to enjoy the [INAUDIBLE] as well. [MUSIC] Jaguar has got you know, a sporting performance pedigree. Land Rover clearly a completely different pedigree, but we're looking at special vehicles for both Jaguars and Land Rovers. And you know, it's about on road performance. It's about all terrain performance. It's about luxury. It's about the spoke. It's just about making ver special vehicles. The whole essence of [UNKNOWN]. Do stuff that it's very individual. It's different. It's a low volume. Just very special cars. I mean, we build performance cars anyway, but taken to the next level, it's very exciting. When this new team was set up, we kinda thought well, what if, what if, how could we put this car into production. Which isn't as easy as it sounds, because you know, it needed to spend quite a lot of time in you know, the, the wind tunnel, for example. They did quite a lot of work on Aero. And we, we wanted it to be a car with integrity and Paul Newsome who now heads up the special vehicles team recruited from Williams you know, he was the chief technical office there which talks of his pedigree. Spent an awful lot of time working on this car. And you know, in very short order we've brought it to market. We'll go into production in the first quarter of next year. We'll be delivering in Spring and Summer next year. It's going to be a limited run of 250 cars, and I'm absolutely convinced that it will be a hit. [MUSIC] When the seven was inspired by the Jaguar 7 wins at Lamont. The design of the car was inspired by the D-type which, clearly won Le Monde three times in 55, 56, and 57 I think. So it's got a unique design, a very unique design. It's also lightweight. It's, it's been designed for the track. It's a very legal car, but it's got track credentials. It's 80 kilograms lighter. So it has a lot of carbon fiber, it's got great down force. it's, it's, you know, it's just a, takes the f-type onto another level. At [UNKNOWN] RPM, so that's the most powerful Jaguar ever, and it's gonna be the fastest Jaguar ever. It's got a real proper sound track as well. Yeah, this is, this is a good sounding car. I mean, the outside base cars some good sanding. We have worked hard to make that even better. So you'll, you'll hear it. It is always great seeing a new car coming out, but you know, I love a twist on things. I love to take the normal, and turn it into something very special and very different. And to turn that into reality in terms of [UNKNOWN] cars is a huge thrill. Not only to state a concept car, but to turn that concept into reality, that's a huge thrill. And now we'll see them on the road. You may not see them very often, but you'll see other people enjoying them. And hopefully I'll be able to enjoy one, one day as well. [MUSIC]
