Tech Minute: Ditch the spray: Apps to repel mosquitoes

Along with summer comes cookouts, swimming, and mosquitoes -- lots of them. Instead of slathering on repellent, turn to your smartphone to keep pesky critters at bay. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on apps designed to repel mosquitoes.

Deet, citronella, we've tried it all to keep mosquitoes away. Next time you're in the wild, just pull out your smartphone. Android users will want to download the free mosquito repellant app. The app runs in the background and emits a very high frequency sound that mosquitoes hate. You, however, probably won't hear anything as. Especially not the buzz of mosquitoes in your ear. The app gives you full control over frequency strength and claims to not drain your battery. iPhone users can try the free anti mosquitoes sonic repeller. Another free app that works in the exact same way. The app doesn't guarantee 100% success but it's worth a shot in addition to other methods you're trying. And finally track the bugs in your area by logging onto M Tracker a free download for android phones.
