You reserved your campsite, packed the car with your tent, stove, and bug spray, and are about to head into the great outdoors. In this Tech Minute, CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on smartphone apps designed to improve your camping experience.

[MUSIC] One of my favorite parts of camping is the meals. Up your cookout game with the free iPhone app, Classic Camping Cookbook and Meal Planner. Search for recipes for either cooking method, the type of meal, or ingredient. And then build your menu and shopping list based on number of days and number of campers. End your day around the campfire. If you've got a group of songbirds, download the free app for iPhone called campfire songs. Search a database of more than 200 favorites by type of song or even by tune. Wanna spook yourselves? Well then download a good ghost story app. Android users can try Real Ghost Stories and iPhone users should check out. True ghost stories from around the world. Both free. For a more tame end to your evening, Android users can check out the free Sky Map app for mapping out constellations. Apple users, try the $3 Star Walk app. Both have time-machine features for viewing the sky at a different point in time, and will ensure that you no longer confuse Orion and the Big Dipper.
