School supplies no longer mean some pencils and erasers. Expensive gadgets like laptops and tablets have stepped in. CNET's Kara Tsuboi reports on great student discounts offered by major tech retailers as the first class bell gets ready to ring.

[MUSIC] There's some huge perks to being a student. One of the biggest is flashing that student id to save you big bucks. For a limited time Apple is offering off their $200 in saving for their computers and tablets with this education pricing. They're even throw in a free gift card with a purchase of a laptop. It also pays to have a dot edu email address register that account with adobe and you'll receive coupons for heavily discounted services like, adobe light room. At Best Buy a dot edu will be everything from discounted tablet and computers. To bargain microwaves and mini-fridges. And with Amazon, a .edu account gets you some of the perks of a Prime membership for half off. Savvy student shoppers will also find great back-to-school deals at Dell, where the company is offering a free tablet if you buy a bundle of computer supplies.
