French rally driver and daredevil Guerlain Chicherit has driven a Mini John Cooper Works Countryman into a world first.

It is being hailed as the world's first successful "unassisted" 360-degree backflip by a car: Guerlain Chicherit drove, of all things, a Mini John Cooper Works Countryman up the side of a snow ramp in Tignes in the French Alps, launched 12 metres into the air while executing a complete backflip — and landed safely on the other side.

The 34-year-old stunt driver managed to get the car an estimated 12 metres into the air — but we wouldn't recommend trying it at home. The car itself had been significantly modified for the stunt, although BMW has remained tight lipped on what those modifications actually were.
