Vivitar ViviCam 3105S: Pick of the pops -- not 'arf!

Market researchers GfK have revealed that the UK's top-selling digital camera in 2007 wasn't a Sony or even a Canon: it was the 3-megapixel Vivitar ViviCam 3105S. We hadn't heard of it either

Greetings, pop pickers -- welcome to the hit parade! It's the list of the top ten best-selling digital cameras in the UK for 2007, as calculated by market research wonks GfK. Alright? Alright!

At number ten, it's the Casio Exilim EX-Z75. Nice. At nine, it's the ever-gorgeous Canon Digital IXUS 75 . Looking good! Straight in to number eight is the Fujifilm Finepix A800. Following that is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W35, the first of two entries for Sony. But will the Japanese giant hold the top spot or can Canon make it to the top of the tree? A mysterious 'trade brand' camera (one made for a specific retailer) is sitting pretty at six, while Kodak takes us into the top five with the EasyShare C613. Another looker, the Canon Digital IXUS 70, is number four with a bullet. Slinky!

As we enter the top three there's still one Sony and one Canon to go. Who will nab the coveted top spot? There'll be tears in Tokyo, as the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 has stalled at three. It's had two entries already, but will Canon top the chart?

Crave can reveal that the good folks at Canon will have to be pleased with three cameras in the chart, as at number two it's the Canon EOS 400D. So which snapper will be riding high at number one?

Crave can reveal that straight into number one is... the Vivitar ViviCam 3105S!

The whosawhatnow? Yes, pop pickers, you heard it right. The camera-buying public has turned its noses up at the big names, and voted with its hard-earned for a 3.2-megapixel point-and-shoot with a 4x digital zoom and a tiny 40mm (1.6-inch) screen. Why? It costs £21.

So where are all the ViviCam fans? Of the millions of people posting photos to Flickr, six use the 3105S. Are you a ViviCam user? Let us know in our forums or add a comment to this story. Not 'arf! -Rich Trenholm
