What does AU$8000 get you in the photography world? A Canon 1D X, of course.

Canon's flagship professional SLR replaces both the 1D Mark III and 1D Mark IV, and houses an 18.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor. Made for sports photographers and professionals with the need for precise autofocus, the 61-point AF system has been overhauled from previous pro SLRs.

As for continuous shooting? Oh, that's just a lazy 12 frames per second, which you can hear in action in the video above. We'll have sample photos and more hands-on impressions of the camera soon, but in the meantime, head on over to the preview to find out more .

While Canon Australia no longer issues RRPs for its products, you can find the 1D X in Australian retailers in the region of around AU$6500-8000.
