Telstra will offer BigPond members a movie download service via broadband from March next year.

Telstra today announced a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment which gives them access to Sony's film library of more than 7000 titles from Columbia, Tristar, Screen Gems, Sony Classics, MGM and UA. No additional information such as pricing, usage restrictions or delivery platform was released.

The BigPond movie library will be made up of classic and new release films, although new movies will only be available after they debut at video stores.

BigPond Managing Director Justin Milne says BigPond members will be able to download to their PCs films recent films like Bewitched, blockbusters like Men In Black II and other classic titles.

"We've built and successfully tested the downloads platform and, when we launch next March, BigPond Movies members will be able to access downloads at very competitive prices," he said.

Telstra currently offers a DVD rental service under the BigPond Movies logo.
