We got our hands on a Lego Sydney Opera House, so we did what all normal people do: we took it to the real Sydney Opera House to see what people thought.

The Lego Sydney Opera House, launched on 1 September, is a beautiful piece of Lego engineering. With 2989 pieces and standing at 28x63.5x38cm, it's one of the biggest pieces Lego has ever produced.

When we met its designer, Jamie Berard, we fell in love with the kit — so we decided to build one for ourselves and see if other people shared our view.

The building itself has a fascinating story. You can read about it on the ABC's Opera House Project website, and watch the recently re-aired controversial documentaryAutopsy on a Dream on YouTube.

The Lego Sydney Opera House is available for AU$399.99 from the Lego online store or the Sydney Opera House gift shop.
