Pono music player to debut on Kickstarter
The high-resolution music player and online store called Pono, backed by musician Neil Young, will be available to pre-order from Kickstarter in mid-March.
The Pono concept looks like it will finally become a reality as it is now available to pre-order from Kickstarter.
Pono encompasses both a high-resolution music player and an online music store. Pioneered by musician Neil Young,has been seen out and about since 2012 when it made its first appearance on TV.
"It's about the music, real music. We want to move digital music into the 21st century and PonoMusic does that. We couldn't be more excited about bringing PonoMusic to the market," said Young.
The player will have 128GB of storage and will be able to hold 1000 to 2000 high-resolution albums, according to the company. It will be able to play back FLAC files bought from the store as well as most other popular audio formats. The player will also have a touchscreen LCD.
According to music website Pitchfork, the player will also be able to accept memory cards to expand on the built-in memory. Pono has been developed in conjunction with acoustics company Ayre, best known for its high-end audio components.
It will be available for US$399 when sold through the PonoMusic.com site, and a discount will be made available for backers who pre-order the player on Kickstarter.
