Thirteen new camcorders have joined Sony's Handycam range, headlined by two HDV and two DVD high-def models.

Not to be outdone by the recent Panasonic and Canon camcorder launches, Sony has unleashed (or is about to) a torrent of new Handycam cameras. CNET.com.au have sighted and, briefly, sampled some of the latest additions. There are four new high definition cameras, two each of the HDV and DVD variety, as well as nine standard-def models, five of which record to hard-drive with the balance being DVD units.

High definition
Complementing the hard-disk HDR-SR1 are two new DVD and HDV models. Each feature an updated design, longer-life batteries and smooth slow-mo. The HDR-HC7 and the HDR-UX7 up the ante with greater megapixel counts, optical image stabilisation, headphone and microphone jacks. The DVD models alone have 5.1 channel surround sound recording.
