MacBook Air and Pro with Retina display: specs up, prices down

Apple has today upgraded the processors on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air models, while dropping the starting prices on both line-ups.

Here's hoping you didn't buy the wrong MacBook yesterday. Today saw upgrades and price drops across the MacBook Pro with Retina display and MacBook Air notebook ranges.

For MacBook Pro with Retina display, the 13-inch entry model now starts at $1,649 for 2.5GHz dual-core Core i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. The higher specced 13-inch now offers 2.6GHz Core i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD for $1,849.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display models keep the same prices as before, but now start with a 2.4GHz quad-core Core i7, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, while the top range 15-inch delivers a 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD for $3,199.

For the MacBook Air, the 13-inch model with 256GB storage is now priced at $1,549.

All prices reflect closely to a direct "US parity price + GST" conversion.
