One thing that we often see in zombie stories: the heroes get into a car. The heroes start the car. Alerted by the sound of an engine running, zombies mob the car, leading to a desperate struggle of some kind or another.

This is Hyundai's solution. Called the Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine, the car looks like what happens when a snowmobile goes to hell and back. Bristling with armour and weaponry, the coupe features a spiked zombie catcher on the front, wheel spikes/blades (for cutting the undead off at the ankle, we assume), slatted window armour, a roof hatch so that passengers can pop up and shoot at zombies, an electric rear boot for weapons storage, plus in-car compartments and all-terrain wheels.

If you're heading over to San Diego, California, Hyundai will be unveiling the finished car at Comic-Con on preview night, 11 July, at the Future US booth.

You can find out more at HyundaiUndead.com (where US residents can also enter to win a 2013 Hyundai Elantra — although, not the Zombie Survival Machine, we're sad to say), or watch the video below.
