Guild Wars 2 remains 'sold out' of digital editions

The popular MMO is yet to lift the barrier for additional digital purchases.

People looking to purchase a downloaded version of Guild Wars 2 are still finding themselves stymied, after ArenaNet announced that it was suspending digital sales at the end of August.

The company had previously promised to ensure that excessive player numbers wouldn't impact the gameplay experience, and it made good on that promise, halting digital sales just days after launch.

The company made a post on its Facebook page on 30 August, stating:

Ensuring the best possible play experience for our fans is our highest priority. We've said before that we would be willing to temporarily disable first-party digital sales if we felt our high player concurrency may compromise player experiences. We have now reached that point.

Twelve days later, the official Guild Wars 2 page still lists the digital edition and digital deluxe edition as "sold out", with only the US$149.95 Collector's Edition available for purchase.

The official Australian distributor for Guild Wars 2, QV Software, has its own site at, which also has the two digital editions listed as "sold out". An undated news story on the MyGuild site encouraged people to buy physical copies, and asked people to "check back tomorrow" for more details on the availability of digital editions.
