Get a $25 Krome credit for photo retouching, prints, and gifts
This Cheapskate exclusive lets you order retouched prints, photo books, plaques, and more, right from your iPhone or iPad.
There are lots of apps that let you order prints and other photo goodies from your smartphone or tablet (I still think), but very few promise professional retouching to make your images look their best. And almost none offer you a big honking free credit to sample the service.
That's mighty generous, but, hey, this is The Cheapskate you're talking to. I worked my magic and finagled this deal: Through Sunday, Oct. 6, you can get an extra $15 (for a grand total of $25!) when you use coupon code CNET15CREDIT during the checkout process (within the app). You will need to provide a credit card, but it won't be charged unless you order more than $25 worth of stuff.
So, just to clarify: Install the Krome iOS app, which automatically nets you a $10 credit. Add a retouched item (more on that in a second) to your cart, then use the coupon code when you get to the checkout page. Now you'll have a $25 credit. As long as you don't go over, everything in your cart is free.
The app works like this: you start by choosing the kind of editing you want -- Custom (for "big" touch-ups, like removing photobombs) or Express -- which dictates what kinds of items you can order.
In Custom, you can choose a professionally edited digital image (which gets returned to you as such; no actual print), a 4x6 or 8x10 print, or a 5x7 plaque. Express allows for digital images, 4x6 prints, a mini photo book, or a 7x7 book.
I chose the plaque, which would normally run $14.99 (not at all a bad price considering the pro-level editing included in the deal), plus $5.99 for shipping. My out-the-door total: $0. And I still had a few bucks left over to order some prints.
I will say the app could use a little improvement, as it doesn't really have a shopping cart; it seems you can order only one item (plaque, batch of photos, mini book, etc.) at a time. That said, it's impossible to argue with a giveaway like this. Grab it while you can!
Bonus deal: A while back, it seemed like free DVD rippers were available on a monthly basis. But I haven't seen one in a quite a while. So, this: Today only, Giveaway of the Day is offering Aiseesoft DVD Ripper Platinum (Win) for free. In addition to converting copy-protected discs to any number of mobile and desktop formats, it can add simulated 3D effects (if you're into that kind of thing). As with all GotD freebies, you must download, install, and activate the program today.
