Rolling out progressively to users across the globe, the Trending feature will appear in the top right of the news feed. As expected, the Trending box is a list of popular topics that users are discussing at that point in time. According to Facebook, the list is personalised and will reflect topics you are interested in, as well as overall trends.

Once a user clicks on a trending topic, a range of posts from other Facebook users and pages will appear in the news feed.

At the moment, Trending will only be available on Facebook's web interface, not on mobile apps. The Trending feature follows Facebook's introduction of hashtags in June 2013 that lets users click on a particular tag to see an aggregation of posts on that particular topic.
