With the silly season fast approaching, Crime Stoppers is sending out a warning for smartphone users to be careful when booking taxis through apps.
In partnership with the NSW Taxi Council, Crime Stoppers has created a list of approved taxi apps, some of which are only for Sydneysiders, others which are state-wide. This list includes mTaxi (our personal favourite), along with a number of others; the full list is available on the NSW Taxis website.
The apps listed keep track of all taxi bookings and journeys, which guarantees that any disputes a customer may have with a driver can be easily traced.
"Increasingly, there are complaints from passengers which cannot be investigated because there is no record that the journey ever took place. These range from lost property, disputes over charges and, in one case, a man in his private car showed up saying that he wanted to make a little cash on the side," said NSW Taxi Council CEO John Bowe in a statement.
