The quest to tame fire takes on different shapes and sizes every time the backyard grill gets fired up. At least one characteristic, however, can be counted on to remain the same: fire is hot. Of course, it's this defining characteristic that makes our food taste good, but it's what we do with it that makes all the difference. Some like a raging fire, some like it low and slow. And some like to let fire just do its thing, and bring the food to the flame.
The means to save food from being burnt to a crisp usually involves raising or lowering the heat. The Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet Gaucho Grill takes a different approach; the grilling platform itself is raised or lowered as needed. While the wood or charcoal is burning, the food can be moved as necessary.
The style of cooking is not new, but the machine pictured above is. Resembling a traditional Santa Maria style grill that can also accommodate Argentinian style BBQ, the Gaucho Grill expands on the style by incorporating new elements. Aside from the visually appealing, gigantic 36-inch wheel, the new wood/charcoal barbecue grill features a gas-powered starter burner, interchangeable cooking surfaces, and an ash-collecting funnel for easy clean up. Additionally, the cooking surface platform can be removed in favor of a rotisserie attachment.
Pricing has not been finalized for the new grill, but look for it to start shipping as soon as late spring 2014. It will be available in two freestanding models as well as a built-in version.
