Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera now half price
Here's one for the filmmakers: grab a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera for US$495/AU$589/£325. That's almost 50 percent off the original price.
Blackmagic Design, the makers of high-end professional video cameras, has cut the price of its Pocket Cinema Camera.
The video camera offers a Super 16 sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, CinemaDNG raw and ProRes 422 recording. Normally retailing in the US for $995 (AU$1239/£635), it's now available at a significant discount of almost 50 percent.
Until August 31, you can grab one of these for US$495/AU$589/£325 from any retailer that sells the camera. After that, the camera will return to its original retail price.
For filmmakers who already have a collection of Micro Four Thirds lenses -- or Super 16 cinema lenses with an adapter -- this is a bargain price for what's on offer.
While you don't get 4K recording like some other video-centric interchangeable lens cameras on the market like the Panasonic Lumix GH4, this camera is designed first and foremost for video recording.
As its name indicates, the Pocket Cinema Camera is tiny compared to many of the alternatives. At 12.5oz or 355g, it can be used in situations where other cameras can't. You also get plenty of connectivity options, including micro HDMI out for external monitoring, a mic input, and headphone jack.
