Seven Aussies have been shortlisted in the global Sony World Photography Awards.
Competition was fierce: nearly 140,000 images from 166 countries were submitted for consideration. The Australians who made the shortlist spanned both the professional and open categories.
Photographer Chloe Bartram was a finalist in the professional category, and will be considered for the Professional Arts and Culture Photographer of the Year title. Kate Geraghty and Adam Pretty made the shortlist for the professional category for their entries into the contemporary issues and sport awards respectively. Pretty was last year's winner in the professional sport category.
Winners of the open category will be announced on 18 May and will receive a range of Sony imaging equipment, while the winners in the professional category will be announced on 30 April. The overall winner of the L'Iris D'Or/ Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year title receives US$25,000 in prize money. See photos from the finalists and shortlisted Australians below.
