Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.
Paper catalogues, like much other print media, are on the decline. It seems Swedish homeware store Ikea is attempting to do something about that with its 2013 catalogue — with an app for iOS and Android. It's pretty easy to use. As you browse the catalogue, you'll see a little phone icon on some of the pages. When you see the icon, you select the "scan" option from within the app and scan the entire page. The app will then take you to additional content — perhaps a video of the space, or little info-bites about various home technologies or additional images of Ikea products.
But for those who eschew the whole paper thing, the app also lets you download a digital copy of the catalogue — with all the same additional content available.
Ikea's not the first company to try something like this — in June this year,to its paper catalogues so that users could shop products from their phones — but we quite like Ikea's solution, with its options to either use the paper catalogue or not.
