App of the Day: Blast-A-Way

Every single element of Illusion Labs' Blast-A-Way has been pitched to perfection.

Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.

The problem with many puzzlers is that they can get extraordinarily frustrating very quickly, when all you're looking for is something pleasant to relax with. We love absolutely everything about Blast-A-Way; every single element has been pitched to perfection. The difficulty curve is gentle without being patronising, the gameplay is fresh and fun, the controls are intuitive and the visual design is lovely.

The basic premise sees you, a little robot, in a world of wooden blocks and trying to rescue even littler robots. You use coloured bombs to blow up blocks of the same colour, to clear the way and shake the little robots loose. There's no timer and no penalties; each level is scored solely on whether you rescue all three robots, with more complex puzzles each level that you can take as much time or as many tries as you need to succeed, at your own pace.
