Get rid of the recent recipients list in Mail on iOS
This great tip will help you clear out the list of past e-mail addresses you've sent a message to using the Mail app on iOS.
When I started using the first iPhone, one of the biggest annoyances I can remember was the inability to delete the recently e-mailed list in the Mail app. If I had e-mailed someone on Craigslist, or replied to a newsletter to unsubscribe, the e-mail address was then stored on my iPhone indefinitely. Every time I began to compose an e-mail by entering a recipient, I would have to look at the recent list, full of e-mail addresses I'd never need again.
The only way to reset the recent list at that time was to restore your iPhone and set it up as a new device.
I was ecstatic when I read a post on Guiding Tech that revealed it's now a lot easier to manage this list. I have no idea when this was introduced in iOS, but I can't be happier it's here.
- To delete an entry in your recently e-mailed list, start composing an e-mail in the Mail app.
- Enter a letter or name in the "To:" field and you'll see a list populate below. Scroll through the list until you find the address(es) you'd like to remove and tap on the blue arrow next to each item.
- Tap on the Delete From Recents button. Or, if you're so inclined, you can add the address to your Address Book.
