IEEE 1394 Also known as FireWire, IEEE 1394 is a standard for high-speed serial connections approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The standard is designed for the exchange of information between PCs and consumer electronics devices that transfer large amounts of data, such as digital camcorders or VCRs. Currently, there is an extremely limited number of FireWire devices, but proponents of PC and TV convergence think the standard will be more widely adopted as time goes on. Windows 98 will support FireWire-compliant devices.
