  • How about one in the Bronx, Queens, Harlem, Brooklyn or even Staten Island??? It's an enormous city with 4 other boroughs. I believe Brooklyn is bigger than Philadelphia. Guess the people there aren't worthy. In reply to: "Apple set to raise curtain on 4th Manhattan store"

  • I don't know what message labs is like since Symantec bought it but was great. The best filters with the fewest (0) false positives I have ever dealt with and user didn't have to manage their spam.

Also keep in mind that all these services are is a relay with a filter. People are still storing and maintain their emails. using the cloud to kill spam and malware before it gets to you is a still a great idea. In reply to: "Google's Postini suffers prolonged e-mail delays"

  • I once worked for a supposedly forward thinking CIO/COO. He insisted that tape had no place in a modern data center. Shortly after I left, someone deleted a very important disk group in the one of the SANs while "looking around." Years of data and email was gone forever. The CIO/COO quickly canned the curious admin and blamed him for the mistake and the lack of backups which he refused to fund. That Exec now has a high profile job with a very prominent national bank in an extremely wealthy country. I wonder if they have off-site tape backups now? • @EDCenter

So when they become profitable, then they're breaking the law? You could argue that Viacom is losing revenue. In reply to: "Did Viacom find smoking gun in YouTube case?"

  • It is going to be a device targeted at the medical profession. He saw a need while he was hospitalized and got a vision. Computing in most hospitals is so far behind it is pathetic and there is no hole to fill in the consumer space with a tablet.

I am not sure how well he'll do. Tablet PC's have only had very limited success but health care is one of their targeted segments. It will be interesting to see if Apple comes up with something really different or just a MAC Book in tablet form factor. Let's not debate the MAC/PC difference. I have never seen a MAC in a hospital. In reply to: "Report: Apple brings back Newton developer"

  • Small and even medium businesses are soon going to learn, if they have not already, they have very little need to spend capital on servers. They should all be renting capacity on an expense basis from large cloud providers or local shops who can deliver all the services without making their customers responsible for IT.

Virtualization is also going to hurt hardware. The days of spending $10k-$20k plus installation and consulting fees for a file, print, app server are rapidly coming to an end.

  • Hey Happy,

Has it occurred to you that the common denominator in the PC's YOU've built and supported for 15 years is YOU. Now that YOU have switched to a system where building and maintaining is done for YOU, YOU have been removed from the equation. I cannot honestly remember my last windows crash. In reply to: "Windows 7 bug likely not a 'showstopper'"

  • It seems ironic to me that the personal computer (MAC and PC) has been minimized over the years by putting forth the idea that nobody needs applications or an OS because everything will be done over the internet. "All you'll need is a browser." Well along comes the Iphone and once again it's all about applications. You need an APP for everything. MLB =need and app. Youtube = need an app. Facebook = need an app. All of these things and many many others run in a browser on computers, no? The iphone is doing a real nice job at bringing back the operating system and following the Windows model. I expect to see Mr. Jobs doing a monkey dance and chanting DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS as soon as he is healthy enough. In reply to: "Flash Player 10 beta coming to most smartphones this fall"
