  • Lesson #1: Build your own PC, way cheaper and if you are buying an i7, you probably know how to build a computer.
Lesson #2: Overclock it yourself, you'll probably do a much better job with voltage optimization.
Lastly, why are you still using prime95? linx and IBT are much better at testing stability much faster.
I run my 920 on a classified at 4.6ghz under water, stable 24/7. I am able to leave most of my voltages on auto except vcore and vdimm, which I enter myself. In reply to: "Dear PC Industry: Please overclock responsibly"

  • Don, you need to mention something about this: http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2236292/stimulus-bill-nixed-net

If this is passed they claim its going to crack down on illegal internet activity. But if you think about it, in order to catch illegal activity they are going to have to monitor every single piece of traffic that everybody sends in order to catch anything illegal. So it opens the door for the isp to snoop on anything we do, legally. So say goodbye to privacy. All the isp has to do if caught snooping on you is say they were checking for illegal activity. • Well Sony sure didn't have a good day in Japan today. 12% slide. Looks like Sony is going to have to make some changes somewhere along their lineup. PS3 isn't selling well enough against the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii competitors. The Vaio laptops are completely pointless nowadays since they cost as much as a Macbook which in many regards are nicer than the Vaio. In the MP3 market, Sony really doesn't have very much going for them there as Apple has pretty much dominated the market. It seems like Sony used to be the top name when it came to any sort of electronic device and nowadays, they are getting pounded in every section of the company by companies like Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo, HP, Panasonic, and Canon. Sony is really going to have to come up with some killer pricing and innovative good performing tech products to steal the spotlight back if things are going to improve for them. • I don't think the G1 really brings many hardware advantages over any other phone such as the iPhone, Tilt, or Blackberrys. I think the key that Google has going for them right now is that Android is pretty much completely open source and developers can immediately go to work on it creating interesting stuff. With Apple, it took them forever just to get the SDK out and now they are playing the dictatorship role in the Apps Store and really screwing with a lot of developers. Plus with Amazon DRM-free music on the G1, it puts the iTunes integration in the iPhone to shame. RIM doesn't have much going for them in apps, they are mostly in the business email side of things. And soon Android will smash RIM in that since it's open source and developers will create innovative apps for syncing with your Exchange and email servers. Windows Mobile will probably bet smashed by Android since there seems to be so little effort into it by Microsoft. For instance, HTC has to create Touchflo3d just to hide the ugly Windows Mobile. If the manufacturers are having to hide the ugliness of the phone's OS, that's not a good sign. Windows Mobile does have good Exchange support, but Android will soon be right up along with it and plus Android is tied into the Amazon music store whereas Windows Mobile has no ties. But there are plenty of apps for Windows Mobile, and Microsoft isn't playing communist dictator and trying to control them, so that is an upside for Windows Mobile. Looks like Google has finally struck gold with a Linux based OS, something that companies that make Ubuntu, openSUSE, Redhat etc... have yet to do yet. Who would have thought the phone market is where Linux would first come to popularity. In reply to: "Underestimating Google can be disastrous"

  • To mcp9500, you have got to be kidding me. Obviously you don't shop around very much. This Dell ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8878823&type=product&id=1210379087838 ) is $899. Thats a Intel 2.5Ghz quad core, 6gb ram, 750gb hard drive, and an ati hd2600xt. Here is a 24" HP LCD ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176090 ) for $469. Now that's $1370 total.

Now we go over to Apple ( http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=MTE3MDM ) and we have the 2.8ghz 24" iMac for $1799. Now lets compare here.
2.8 dual core vs. 2.5ghz quad core - PC wins
2gb ram vs. 6gb ram - PC wins
320gb hdd vs. 750gb hdd - PC wins
    Hd2600pro vs. hd2600xt - tie
    24" lcd vs. 24" lcd - tie
    $1800 vs. $1370 - PC wins

Where did the $530 difference come from? The PC clearly smashes the Mac in specs and yet it's less money? Don't get into quality either buddy. Are you going to say that the Intel processor in the Dell is less "quality" than the Intel processor in the Mac. I think you Mac boys mistake appearances for quality. Sure the iMac is an all in one package and looks good, but for gods sake, the computer is there to use and sit on your desk. You buy a computer to type documents, play games, surf the internet, send emails, etc, not to drool over the beauty of it. If you want to buy something stylish, then go buy a nice car or nice clothes, not something that is going to sit on your desk in your office. Sure the Mac has Leopard, but is Leopard worth the $530? Granted Vista had issues when it was first released, but by this stage in the game, Vista is pretty damn solid. Leopard is at max a $200 advantage over Vista. So once again, where is the difference in price coming from? Obviously if style is an issue and Windows is absolutely dreadful to you, then go buy the Mac, but 90% of the 1 billion computers in the world run Windows, so I guess Windows isn't all that dreadful to people.
Maybe the iMac site should say "Beauty. No brains. And less brawn." In reply to: "Is Apple the only company that can do no wrong?"

  • I can?t sit on the sidelines while the Apple fanboys continue to roll in spitting out their gibberish instilled in them by the Genius Bar. There are flaws in both the Macs and PCs. To me, the flaws in the Macs are much greater which is why I choose to run a PC.

I don?t have the time to sit here and go over every computer Apple makes so I will just go with one example. Take this Dell (Link) and match it with a 24? HP LCD monitor (Link) and you have a price of $1250. Now look at the 24? iMac 3.06GHz (Link) and you?ll see that Apple wants $2200 for theirs, and yet the PC is more powerful. Once again, iMac is stylish, but if you are looking for price and performance, the Dell wipes the walls. Don?t give me the ?quality? nonsense either. Dell?s are built with the same hardware that Mac?s are. You can?t sit here and tell me your Intel processors are more reliable than my Intel processors. Apple makes their products appealing to the eye which makes you believe they are quality. I think the decision you have is, if you are looking for something that is stylish, buy the Mac, but if you are looking for performance and price, buy the PC. Now think about it, do you buy a computer for appearance, or do you buy it for fast performance on the internet, games, checking e-mails, typing letters, etc? If you want to buy something stylish, then go spend your money on clothes or a nice car, at least something that everybody else will see and get you compliments. But your desktop computer sits on your desk inside your office, so really you could buy the ugliest computer in the world and nobody would ever know. Leopard is not a significant upgrade over Vista so there really isn?t much of an advantage for Macs. At first Vista was terrible, but Microsoft has fixed the mess and I power use Vista 64bit everyday and I have absolutely no issues with it whatsoever. I don?t even think I could switch back to XP. I guess you just have to look at it and say, do I want a pretty machine or should I save $950 and buy a machine with double the power. Plus the Dell is expandable whereas the iMac is basically locked down in the communistic Apple society where Jobs makes the decisions for you. I really don?t care what you choose, it?s your choice. I think it?s just a bit short sighted or complacent for some of these Apple fanboys to come on here and continuously bad talk PC?s while never admitting that Apple has any issues. More then the company I really disagree with the majority of it's customers that have this "you use a pc? your soooo a sheep of the government"-type of attitude. To me apple is a company that takes a concept, makes it somewhat idiot proof (I've seen my fair share of broken iPods) and calls it revolutionary. Afterwards we have the army of zombies claiming individuality left and right with the strong need to buy what everyone else is buying..... yes my friend your truly one of a kind. • The iPod fails in that it requires you to use iTunes and uses proprietary connections. The Sansa also uses a proprietary connection but doesn't required a mandatory service to load music. I personally like using my MP3 players in the same way i use a USB flash drive. Quite simply, not everybody in the world will want to use iTunes, but Apple requires it with the iPod. To the Apple fanboys above, you may want your playlists, but there are just as many people out there that don't want playlists. You are a bit short sighted by saying since you like your playlists, that everybody else will like playlists just like you. You people are a bunch of sheep. Instead of trying to fix issues you have, you wait for Cupertino to issue the fix. Plainly you people are tethered to the mothership. The iPod is overpriced by around $60, which isn't bad considering iMac's are around $1000 overpriced, but still however you slice and dice it, Apple products are overpriced. You guys just play stupid when people start naming off features that the Apple products don't have. The Sansa has every feature the iPod has and more, yet its cheaper and you guys have the audacity to say, oh well not everyone wants those features. Well for God's sake, you are getting the Sansa for a lower price in the first place, so who wouldn't enjoy the extra features, they're free! Come on smug complacent Apple fanboys, get rid of the egos. I'm ashamed to admit that I simply don't care for Apple, first it was AOL now it's Apple. More then the company I really disagree with the majority of it's customers that have this "you use a pc? your soooo a sheep of the government"-type of attitude. To me apple is a company that takes a concept, makes it somewhat idiot proof (I've seen my fair share of broken iPods) and calls it revolutionary.
