- You say the tablet experience on your convertable was bad because you A)Used Chrome which hasn't been optimized for Windows 8...GOOGLE PROBLEM and B) You want the on screen keyboard to pop up in Desktop mode...where the application once again aren't optimized for touch screens.
DUH.
Listen, you are trying to use legacy apps at the dawn of a new era in Windows. It will take a little while for people to update programs to take advantage of touch screens. Until now, manufacturers have chosen to charge such a premium on touch screens that no one had one on a PC. Now that the price is more reasonable all new machines will have them and in short order...updates will fix these pop keyboard issues and pinch to zoom in 3rd party browser issues.
The HUGE plus side to this is the Microsoft is letting us use legacy programs! UNLIKE Apple... who made a tablet using the same OS, but forced everyone to buy NEW software for touch screens only. This is a different paradigm, and their are a few tradeoffs that most of us won't complain about in order to see progress and an exciting new OS that has touch and desktop productivity built into the same package. In reply to: "A day with a Windows 8 laptop convertible: Keep the top up"

- I find the iTunes Match useful when traveling. The Apple TV is very small and you can pack it up and hook it up to the TV in a hotel room...

- As long as Amazon MP3 store, and Amazon Cloud Player works.. I am not sure the need for iTunes as these do the same thing. I am sure they will work on Metro just fine.

- I have Kindle. It is excellent. I have never once regretted the purchase and since 2 weeks is really short time to borrow a book, have never missed that library feature. Amazon does offer thousands of free books, older books are offered at heavily discounted prices, and the new ones are also heavily discounted.

- I see no problem with an add-on of HBO content for an extra charge. Netflix should offer that to customers and see how it goes. 7.99 for the regular service... $12 extra if you want access to HBO stuff. When NO ONE subscribes to the extra 12 bucks... HBO will get to eat crow and lower its price.

- I love Cooley's list... "I'd like a Roku...and.... a NEW CAR!" Bob Barker would be proud.

- CDMA on Sprint and Verizon would be HUGE sellers... Also, it would keep the price down by not needing that extra fee for 4G.

- I have noticed that 64 bit Windows not only can handle more memory...but it really, really wants more. I had it installed on a laptop for a couple months, and it kept getting sluggish when I had lots of 32 bit applications open. I moved back to 32 bit Windows 7... and the problem stopped. I would have just upgraded the RAM but the laptop only supported 4 GB... so I won't be in 64 bit until I upgrade the whole laptop... 64 bit is really nice with the native apps though.. Super speedy.

- Stop with the battery life issue... that isn't the problem... never was. It is the price. Period.
Windows Tablets have never been anything close on price. The Windows 7 OS would work just fine on a 10 inch touch screen, heck I click on links in web pages on my iPod touch that make the X in the corner to close Windows seem HUGE in comparison. It is simply a price issue.
Build a Windows 7 Tablet with 2hours of battery life... 10 inch in size with 64GB of storage. Sell it for $500... and you won't be able to keep them in stock.
