  • I like T-Mobile and the fact that there's another choice in mobile carriers. I hope they pull it together and can still compete! I kinda wish Apple had gone with these guys over AT&T ... at least I'd have a real signal in my house :) In reply to: "T-Mobile UK says workers sold customer data"

  • Instead of trying to ban and stop this activity, can't someone invent a simple solution? How hard could it be to create a speech to text application that makes it possible to text while driving. Pilots do it in cockpits - it's simple human factors design.

Human nature is to be in contact - you can fight it, or work with it. Why is fighting the first thing to which this degenerates? In reply to: "Survey: Third of teens text while driving"

  • I still think that telecommuting would solve a huge portion of the issues with transportation in general. Companies still insist on making people drive to offices... technology has solved so many of the issues with distributed work, it's really just old thinking that has me staring out the window at other drivers every morning, backed up in traffic.

That said, people still need to get around, and personally, I don't think pure electric power is the answer. More efficient hybrids that charge more efficient batteries will be the way of things until there's a breakthrough in power technology. In reply to: "Barriers loom on road to plug-in cars"

  • As people vote with their money to purchase hybrid and electric vehicles, the technology will only get better. If GM holds onto it's patent (and it really is that great of a battery technology) they will go under. US auto manufacturers, Tesla excluded, are on the fast path to dissolving. They think old and can't seem to course-correct their way out of this hole where it counts. Design and focus, innovate and deliver with bravery and an eye on the future.

That said, I hope Tesla takes every dime GM has and turns it into something we can all be proud of. Time for a change. In reply to: "Frankfurt showcases electric cars"

  • You're missing a very important fact: that Apple may have a great new input method for this tablet. I guess it's easy to naysay, but I have more faith that something good is on the way. In reply to: "Why consumers won't buy tablets"

  • This, and most other Smart cars, are just plan design-ugly. They made a cool sporty looking car for the Euro market a while back - but I believe it was long since cancelled.

Not all electric/mini cars need to look like the Prius... or a Power Puff Girl's ride. In reply to: "Electric-car maker Think plots rebound"

  • I always thought of the government (FAA, etc...) as incompetent. But then I started working with them and realized that they are way (WAY) more motivated, educated and metered than their industry counterparts when it comes to the realities of deployment. Hacking has become a real threat, but don't think for a second the FAA isn't addressing it. Most people have no clue of the complexity and elegance of the FAA systems given their age - and how much the people who work at the FAA care about the safety of people. I've never met a more motivated group of people - naysay all you want, but from someone who's seen it, these people need your support and respect - not your disdain. • I can't get 3G coverage reliably in most of the areas I frequent. I guess if they make my 20 seconds of 3G coverage faster, I can do more in that time! Yay AT&T!

"AT&T how may we drop your call?" In reply to: "AT&T tests speedier 3G network"

  • I don't understand this. What's the complaint? Prostitutes advertise on a public web site, and cops are complaining about it? How about this: it's a roadmap to tell you where the prostitutes are. Use this as a way to find out who's behind it all and stop them. Geez, what do you need, for them to come to the precinct, open the cell, step in and close the door behind themselves?
