  • One of THE biggest problems for Thunderbird 2, that should NOT be repeated on TBird 3, is the need to have a decent, usable LOCAL computer Help file, IN ADDITION TO being able to go to the web for perhaps more-detailed info, or FAQ's, etc.

Not having this cripples TBitd 2 users when they have to know "quickly!" about some need or feature.

Lets not repeat this for TBird 3, please. In reply to: "Near-final Thunderbird 3 due next week"

  • At first, Pandora looks, and sounds, like the same-old, same-old.

In actual service, it's another, positive more pleasant service, and the Live Radio may well be the perfect adjunct to Pandora. In reply to: "Crave giveaway of the week: Livio Wi-Fi radio"

  • The " thermoelectrics--materials that create cooling or heat from electrical current" sounds exactly like the age old NASA solid-state refrigerator / heater that has been around for years, works great overall, and has been seen in other insulated food containers for quite a few years. This is a nice, common-sense improvement on that idea. In reply to: "Solar cooling outfit shows prototype, lands funding"

  • 1. If it's USB, and IF it uses other or OpenSource software, which may be wishful thinking, it should work on the Mac's USB port. Something tells me it won't.

    In a Related Idea:

    2. Those of us that have high-quality 21 or 22" LCD monitors SHOULD be able to also locate a "monitor tuner box" that allows the same as above to be fed through the monitor's DVI or Analog jacks ???

Thus turning these types of monitors into HDTV (???) In reply to: "Add an HDTV tuner to your PC for $29 (after rebate)"

  • OH, NO... once one company tries it, they all will try it...

More troubles, annoyances and B.S. for users, but maybe another boon for advertisers. In reply to: "Yahoo, Adobe team on PDF ads"

  • Please don't touch eMachines...
Gateway joins the long list of American disasters in the high-tech world.

Sadly for this country and its citizens, yet another occurrence of the USA selling its soul to yet another foreign owner.

But as Gateway is absorbed into Acer, pray that Acer is smart enough to leave their hands off of eMachines.

Compared to IBM, Dell, Gateway, HP and a host of other American POS, eMachines was and is a fairly simple, well designed, well made and well priced American product.

  • I just laugh at Windows users
At last count, there are known, but not rampant (yet) virus and other attacks that can take advantage of UNIX/Linux and Mac.

As unfortunate as this fact may be, and it is, it may also be time to stop "laughing" at other users.

  • There's not much difference...
RE: << Lawyer-rating site slapped with class action suit >>

Frankly, the differences between convicted felons and most lawyers in today's society is such that they are both alike in most ways. There are pitifully few good lawyers.

And remember... judges are lawyers. There are pitifully few good judges. In reply to: "Avvo lawyer-rating site slapped with class action"

  • Google a disaster in the making
Google is vastly over-priced, making billionaires out of too many people for far too little real value and quality-based revenue.

It IS an interesting, vibrant company with a hot product and fairly good vision, yes.

But as it is, when it goes bust, it will make paupers of a great many people and a great many other companies -- and it could well be the herald of another, more disastrous .dotcom crash.

  • Compare Firefox to My IE/Maxthon, et al
Subject line says it all. Users of all levels need clarity via comparisons of Firefox to other "lone and on top of MS comparisons" browsers like My IE2 / Maxthon, Opera, etc.

Enough already of Firefox being the best in everything and every way -- let's see comparisons and discussions based on OTHER browser alternatives too.

And if CNET would drop notice of such compares into our Email boxes of record, I would think that might be appreciated too.
