My comments

  • All the stuff they're talking about would have been great 3 years ago but I think consumers want and expect more in 2008. Sadly, despite what consumers expect they're also used to being disappointed.

I returned my Comcast (Motorola) DVR's and bought HD Tivo's that use cbl cards so I can already schedule off the web, use a better search option than the Comcast boxes ever provided, transfer shows between rooms, expand the storage with an ESATA external drive and do thinks like sync to my iPod so I can take content when I travel. I also use a SlingBox to stream and directly connect as needed. For the most part I'm locked out of things like OnDemand (we did keep one non-DVR set top box so my wife can access that content) but I prefer to use the AppleTV, Roku Netflix box, or Hulu and not worry about Comcast's OnDemand library.

Granted, I'm a DVR geek but Comcast needs to move faster and become more open if they expect everyone else won't figure out the same options I've worked out. Choice is coming and if they think adding a "schedule" button to their website will keep customers happy then they're underestimating how many tools out there are generations beyond that.

That said, Comcast has an enviable presence in the living room and I'd gladly give up all these different tools if they would just come up to par. In reply to: "Comcast's goal: Integrate the screens"
