Open means talking to each other
Regardless of Google's internet hegemony ambitions that, what open means here is that Google intends to have all applications talk to each other - this means that instead of having only your FaceBook friends on FaceBook, you will have your friends from second life, MSN, and MySpace. Yes this may be a very smart marketing gimmick on behalf of Google to break FaceBook but it certainly is doing it to help everyone out. Doing this would help people avoid having to sign-up for a hundred different sites to know what is happening.
