My comments

  • Tom Hanks & The Little Guy
Grissomb, that's a good connection between relating theft to the damage it causes.

I have never been compelled to feel sorry for all those "poor little rich kids" of Hollywood, whether in music or in the movies. Their daily escapades, where they publicly **** away more money in one night of partying than I make in an entire month, hardly makes me weep for their terrible piracy losses!

But, you're right - during a PSA, have Tom Hanks walk through Industrial Light and Magic's offices pointing to all the nameless geeks (just like us) who's jobs are jeopardized by media piracy. That might have a very great educational impact.

Now all you have to do is get your great idea to these "poor little rich studio" guys...

  • I Never Knew That
Excellent post, Stu. I consider myself fairly well informed and yet, have never heard of nuclear fuel reprocessing. I'll have to look into this further.

Thanks for the calm approach, too. I grow weary of those who can't post an opinion without belittling dissenters.

And thanks for remembering the 3500. They seem to be more of a footnote now than precious lives lost.

Good job, Stu! I look forward to more of your writing.

  • Not Surprising At All!
Good for you, Marcus! That has to be one of the most interesting and thought-provoking comments I've read in a long time.

You bring out the glaring problem - and error of our ways: we reap what we sow.

It's easy to see lousy leadership in someone like a Michael Vick, who has everything and amounts to nothing. But, you have pointed the finger at all adults! Simple, but very effective.

    Well done, Marcus!

  • It's About Children
Russell, you do not write like a young person. Your thoughts show the workings of a mind that's been "around the block a few times" already! That's a compliment, by the way.

Remember, the survey (and that is incorrect - it is a poll. A Random Sample Survey is a bona fide scientific tool) focused on children in Europe.

If that includes you, then my apologies and my compliments! You're a gifted young person then.

  • France - Home of European-Based Terrorists
It's no wonder France supplies the rest of Europe with vicious terrorists: while terrorists go untouched, free to train and plot, the frickin' cops are busy saving millionaires from these horrible pirates.

Think of that, the COPS contacted the author about this major crime - at least in the US our cops make the RIAA do some of the early legwork in catching our pirates!

What's weirder, those French sure look after their British citizens well, don't they?

  • Aye, Matey!
As a faithful follower of Napster and other unnamed "software," I welcome this site. Yeah, for now Universal is the only game in town. Rest assured that the others will climb onboard if this shows any sign of working.

As for the ads, isn't that where many of us were with free p2p sites years ago? If you wanted the free version of the software you had to put up with ads. It's free, it's legal and I don't mind telling you I'd sure like to take off this stupid itchy pirate's eye patch, pegleg and hook.

As for the file formats, you mean to tell me that there are members of the international pirates' club that still don't know how to convert between the many different ones? Switch to the diners' club - they like whine with their cheese.

  • Jesse Ventura For President
I, too, was one of those disillusioned Republicans, Scott. Then, along came a famous Navy SEAL-turned Mayor-turned-governor and my prayers were answered! We'll show those politicians, was the battlecry.

A couple years went by and we Minnesotans couldn't wait to dump the idiot! He was a welcome breath of fresh air for a moment, but then the bad breath surfaced and he started looking and sounding like all the other politicians.

Be careful, every now and then a Ron Paul comes along. Maybe they truly are different, but I think the System just chews them up and spits them out eventually.

  • Opprobrium, A Medicine?
I still don't know what it means - I was too lazy to type in the word. It sounds made up to me, anyways. Maybe it's the opposite of equilibrium, or something opposed to balance. Any zealots out there who can tell lazy me what it means?

  • CIA's James Angleton Would Be Proud
The single most paranoid counterintelligence leader we have ever endured (who, thankfully, died 20 years ago) would be proud of Bush and Company today if he knew what just happened. James Angleton was a paranoic who made J. Edgar Hoover look like a prissy little Sunday school teacher! The irony is that this nation's worst espionage actions against us took place during Angleton's watch, as head of the CIA's counterintelligence division. If we don't learn from history, I guess we truly are doomed to repeat it...
