Your claims of what Apple's ads say are great proof of one of the reasons why Apple ads (and those of countless other companies) are so effective - they IMPLY things that viewers like you extrapolate to statements that have NEVER been made. NONE of Apple's ads that you mention, explicitly say anything that you claim they do ( http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ ) - why? this would be ILLEGAL. Apple's ads simply imply that PC's are worse at, kludgy with or more vulnerable to certain traits. Apple has amassed a very solid legal team and they know exactly what they can and can't say in ads. This is where Apple is correct on the current "legal call" to Redmond. Microsoft continued to run ads that had incorrect data (i.e. saying a MacBook Pro was more than 2000 when it's now 1700). Apple is completely within bounds by calling bullsh|t on MS's ad campaign. Kevin Turner has proclaimed that MS will continue running the ads, but in the background the reality is that MS can no longer run the same ads that Apple has complained about because...THESE ADS ARE ILLEGAL! Sure, MS can adjust their ads and run them to their hearts content, but they have to reflect CURRENT market prices and realities.

None of this matters because Palm will be dead in a few years anyway...and so will steve jobs. Then all the winblows fanboys can happily wallow in their windows mobile excrement. In reply to: "Sprint takes gloves off, aims for Apple's chin"

I use OSX, Windows and Linux. For those who bash any of these platforms without actually using them on a daily basis, I have zero time to argue with you. Each OS has its merits...sort of.
But honestly, my PC-only friends are constantly contacting me to help fix something with their windows machines - virus issues, increasingly slow computer, incessant error messages...bummer for them. Conversely, my 3-year-old MacBook is still as fast as when I purchased it - not mucked up one bit...boots in 20 seconds. I too would like to buy OSX and have other options for cheaper hardware, but the hardware limits are part of what makes OSX so stable and consistent.
Another reason to buy Apple? The native apps on OSX are light years ahead of anything on Windows. I was recently at a conference/field visit in Cambodia. After the week, in less than 2 hours I compiled all the raw field video into a beautiful production using NATIVE OSX software. Following that I spent another 30 minutes creating a nice webpage to host the video and a few paper downloads. You simply cannot do that with Windows unless you pay HUNDREDS of dollars for better video editing / web design software (native Windows movie maker is a complete joke).
My ranking after years of multiple platforms is:
1) osx
2) linux
3) windows
I urge you to honestly try all the flavors before you come here to senselessly bash any of them.

The whole PC vs. Mac thing is ridiculous. I use a Mac because it fits my work productivity and software needs best. I imagine a lot of PC users would probably say the same. I could care less what kind of computer or OS people use, but I do think it's unfortunate that a lot of people have strong opinions about hardware and an OS they've never really worked with.
Microsoft's recent ads might have been entertaining, but they're also easily forgotten. A 300 million dollar ad campaign should really be able to create something unique and memorable with a NEW catch. I'm afraid that if they can't accomplish this then Kathy Sharpe is spot on - competition or not. We shall see what MS can pull out of their little backpedal.

Actually YES, Psystar did go into the operating system and modify it. They created their own altered software updates (adapted from Apple's update version 10.5.4). After that the Apple legal wrath descended. They could have been successful, but they were really stupid about the boundaries of software copyright. Here comes a whole lot of pain Psystar. cautious praise for the king
Critical thought is not a genetic trait. It is a trained and informed ability to analyze a situation. Legions of Thais will heap praise on the egalitarian and selfless image that has been ardently constructed around the monarchy over the past 50 years. But what choice have Thais been given? Their access to any other reality of the monarchy and their ability to publicly debate any royally-sponsored programs or leadership is nill.
I can recall numerous academic research papers that have addressed the ill-fated results of royally-sponsored social and agricultural projects that have exacerbated the problems of landlessness and debt for its intended beneficiaries...But this kind of information is kept from the eyes of the general public. Any publication that gives a hint of distaste for the royal family is quickly taken off the shelves or banned before it even gets there. How can a country be expected to have anything but praise for a king that they know nothing else about.
I lived in Thailand for nearly 4 years. I cannot count the number of times well-educated Thai friends pulled me aside to whisper their disapproval of the monarchy. Why all the whispering? fear. It's funny how such a noble, selfless, upright and respected democratic monarchy inflicts so much fear. To be honest I'm thoroughly bored with the claim that "all Thais love the King".
Don't get me wrong. I do respect the monarchy in some ways, but I firmly believe that Thais should have the ability to publicly debate Royal actions, actions made by humans just like anyone else.
Down with the junta.
