  • I never really "got" those inductive pads. At least with a power cable you can still use the device, despite being tethered to the wall. Sadly, I just don't see much convenience in the wireless pads, and I think "wireless charging" is a term that continues to over-inflate the hype of these wireless charging pads. "Plug-less charging" sounds more appropriate to me. Lame? In reply to: "Dell Latitude Z could be first laptop with wireless charging"

  • From my perspective, I would love to get a netbook for it's portability and size. Some of them are small enough that I sort of consider them an evolved PDA (remember the HP Jordana clamshells that ran Windows CE?). Netbooks have a separate niche than plain old cheap laptops. • Has anyone speculated about whether or not this quarter's sales will drive down prices further? I will be buying a 46" TV sometime in the next 3 months. A year ago that size would have been way out of my current price range, unless I really sacrificed features and quality. Of course, the $1000+ isn't chump change, but I'm glad I held out this long for a hi-def set. In reply to: "TVs sales continue to decline"

  • Why not? If the vulnerability has been publicized to any extent, then it's worthwhile to spread the word so that system administrators about a potential vulnerability and ways to mitigate risk. Instead of waiting for an exploit that uses a vulnerability, be proactive.

On the other hand, I would think/hope that this vulnerability would not impact most IIS configurations. Generally, it's probably good form to keep file system ACLs enforced and limit the IIS anonymous user account to read-only access on the IIS folder structure. Are there any major web applications that live on IIS that require this (and I'm asking because I'm not sure)? Additionally, there are probably a lot of IIS servers out there that don't even have WebDAV turned on. Also, it looks like IIS7 (Server 2008/Vista) isn't affected. • What's your point?
Your statement lacks explanation. You say Vista is annoying but you don't say how. Is it because of UAC? That can be turned off, you know. How were Aero and search poorly implemented? (note: you spelled implemented wrong in your post) Aero seems fine to me. Is it necessary? Probably not, but one of the things Mac users complain about is how "dull" the XP interface is. As for search, what reasons do you have for saying this was poorly implemented? It's certainly faster and more intuitive than XP's search functionality IMO. Are you sure you're using it right? I definitely agree that a problem with Vista is that it drains laptop batteries faster, but I don't think it's other features are poorly implemented.

  • Correct
Get_Bent is correct, this doesn't really have to do with battery quality. It's the same battery with two different versions of Windows.

However, it would be nice if there were better quality batteries with longer times between charges :)
