Yes please, can I spend more to secure my new OS
This is all one be FARCE. Windows security that is. I just by a new PC with OS and I need to spend more to secure it and my data.
Frankly, many users, and YES even Windows users are going to continue to switch to Macs because they pay just a LITTLE bit more, but they don't have to buy anything else to protect themselves.
User's are getting smarter about this topic. Bill better change some things before he leaves MS.

You're reading YOUR numbers upside down buddy...
Hey nice link, but you forgot one little thing. Windows vulnerabilities are all on the same basic type of OS backbone, Windows.
UNIX/Linux covers a WHOLE HELL OF A LOT MORE OSes than just Windows.
This doesn't even compare. Get over it, Windows is a security f**^$_@! nightmare and will continue to be so until they CHANGE THEIR ARCHITECTURE.
And that will only happen when they're lost 35% of the market shares.

Not trying to hack, or not succeeding?
Think about it. Others in all the comments have said, only attack an easy target. It's not that they're not trying to attack OS X, some are I'm sure. They'll try harder too when Apple continues to take market shares from Microsoft. This doesn't mean they'll succeed on the left they have with Windows.
Hopefully Apple won't give us users too much, and open more holes for script kiddies and such.

I agree with him....
I've only had my make about 1.5 years I it's only locked up on me twice. Once was truly my fault. I don't run any virus protection of anti-spyware software. The other day I decided to scan the entire system with some different scanners and it found nothing. No viruses, no spyware, etc.
I have surfed ALL OVER the web with Firefox, Safari, some Opera, and some Camino. I never have had anything affect the browsers, like all the "specialized" pop-ups and such.
I HIGHLY recommend a Mac to totally inexperienced family and friends who don't have time to learn how to protect themselves from all the Windoze Monsters out there.
Go OS X !!! Keep up the secure work.

It is about Mac -vs- Windows, this is why...
There's only to players on the desktop market, especially on the home-front. Mac or Windows. They have the largest market for desktops. Linux is killing butt on the server side, but I don't think we'll see any serious play on the desktop market from Linux until around 2010.
So, where there's only two players, and we're discussing viruses, WARE, and security, then it's a Mac versus Windows.
Oh yeah, no one uses OS 9 or 8 anymore. No need to mention a totally different architecture that's dead.

100% Agree
Mac OS X has proven to be more reliable and less vulnerable to attacks and all the xxxware out there. I hope this continues to be true. Microsoft could be too, but not in their current mindset or archictural backbone. They'll have to change by 2012 or they'll be trampled by angry mobs of users and businesses.

Where's YOUR proof?
Well, where's your proof that Macs are JUST AS vulnerable? How many viruses affect Macs right now. ZERO, two trojan horse and a worm. All of which don't work that great.
It's the same store from the Windoze people too. "Oh Macs aren't as popular that's why they're not hacked as much.
By the end of 2007 this truly will be difficult to swallow due to the market share that Apple will take from Microsoft.

McNealy's Reliability
This is coming from a man driving a once health company right into the ground. They can't even get web forums working well enough to help us admins out; we have to rely on Google, which does an EXCELLANT Job by the way. As of Jun '05 they're having another 15% rift in the company. After buying Storedge Tech. GREAT Choice there! :(
Very unfortunate that many of their customer's think Sun's doomed... eventually!
And this coming from a Solaris-lover.
