True or False?
Simple questions here.
Does Sony produce equipment that can and does contribute to copyright infringement?
Does TorrentSpy produce software that can and does contribute to copyright infringement?
We can alledge that the TorrentSpy is no different than Sony in this situation, as they are just making a product for data sharing, backups, communications and other electronic frontiers that it in no capacity has control of.
Phil, in your own response you state a couple of things that stand out and break things down, "A lot of inventions can be used for good or evil. You can't necessarily blame the inventor for the evil that people do with their invention."
In that statement you clarify a couple of things that really backup my statements. Sony is just as guilty as TorrentSpy in this scenario, and equally just as innocent as Sony.
The difference here is that Sony is a member of the RIAA/MPAA (who incidently enough have their hands down the pants of waaaayyyyyyy tooooooo many politicians!!!!) and that makes them on the safe side of this issue.
Obviously this is my opinion however it looks rather shaddy when two companies produce a product that are under a general umbrella of copyright infringement and one gets a hell or highwater, Court Hearings, etc. while the other hides behind an UberHuge group of Lobbyists and Lawyers who constantly stroke the manhoods of our Elected Officials to get things done.
Yeah, seems fair to me!

Missing Points
Skeptic-
I do believe he was correct by indicating that the RIAA/MPAA, and some of their entities were behind a majority of recordable formats that came to market. With these we saw the adventation of the BetaMax, VHS, AudioCassette, Laser Disc, etc which were pushed out by major corporations who held anywhere from around 50% of our fine ubergiant record companies. The previous mentioned recording formats were mainly pushed by one company in particular (Sony) so they could make huge profits in the home recording industry.
While Sony was making millions on hardware products (VHS Recorders, Cassette Recorders) they were creating the product to copy material from their own Sony Records subsidarary.
At first I'd say, well that's VHS and Cassette, not what were dealing with right now, which is correct as now I'm using a Dual Layer Sony DVD burner to produce both CD's & DVD's (but not copyrighted material!).
So in essence we have a company, Sony, who has several different associations with the RIAA alone (Sony Broadway, Sony Classical, Sony Classical/ Sony Music Soundtrax, Sony Direct, Sony Discos, Sony Labels, Sony Masterworks, Sony Music Special, Products, Sony Music Works, Sony Portrait, Sony Wonder, SonyBMG U.S. Latin). Surprisingly enough they are also a member of the MPAA.
This tells us a couple of things, one of the main proponents of Illegal Copyright Distrobution is one of the main supporters for the hardware to do so.
You'll never hear Cary Sherman (president of the RIAA) bring this topic about becuase this is a major Conflict of Interest due to the amount of power and clout that Sony brings to the table. Let me ask you C|Net readers, is this ethical?
The same company that takes part in litigation against file swappers sells you the hardware to create illegally procured content? Does it bring any other questions to mind that they've been providing the medium to reproduce copyrighted material since the early 80's?
Corporate Ethics at it's finest!!!!!!!

That's good!!
Now, you want to get in line??!
What you're missing out on here is the electoral college. What that does is gathers votes from our elected officials, that pretty much decides who the president will be. See, if you count everyones votes independantly and go that route, you can get yourself in trouble (note 8 millin illegal immigrants that would vote for an illegal immigrant, simply because they're in similar situations). It's a safe gaurd against that.
Now, I can't agree totally with torturing people, but you gotta stand up for yourself. We're not in the business of letting filthy rich (ironically filthy dirty too) try to kill innocent Americans. See what happens when you do? We blow things up, innocent people are killed, and the world begins to dislike us. Truth and reality are far different as we're needed by much of the world for our current policies, aid that is given to countries, and power.
Speaking of getting back to the topic, the Chinese are notorious for locking up individuals for simply disagreeing with philosophy. 10 and sometimes 15 years pass without a word about it, but that's fair and just right? According to you?!?
It's also fair to keep great portions of your country in an impovershed state of decay, as in not giving aid and help to your citizens. Once again, this is normal pratice?
The phone taps, come on, if you don't think any other country is doing in your greatly mistaken. One of the greatest Security forces (Mi6) is natorious for tapping phones and databasing logs.
At least you're allowed to be selective in what you write, as you fail to mention hundreds of thousands of positive things in this world, only to express a few negative things. But again, you probably get your info from the main stream news and what they tell you to think.
Try branching out, reading some info that's not published to gain headlines, but instead something that's well written, informative, and correct.

An interesting observation
I've noticed that any positive press MS gets on c|net, every Mac *** in the world comes out to try to denounce it like Billy Graham callin out the devil himself!
I'm hoping these guys have nothing to do with programming as their will be no cross platform interoperability for quite some time and we'll all suffer.
Just keep on buying your hella-xpensive machines and paying more for the music than you should, but really, at least try to be apolitical when it comes to software/hardware.
iTunes is a nice setup, it's clean, it's well organized and I'm sure it's great for those that use it. But I don't use a mac, I'd rather own a home, or invest that large sum of money instead of making Steve wealthy. I tend to rely on usability , especially with my system, and that definitely is not iTunes.

It is nice
After using this for a couple of hours, I have to say it's got a clean interface and is rather intuitive. I know, Mac **** are going to get their panties up in a bunch but that's going to happen regardless.
I've used winamp, songbird, wmp10 and several other audio apps and so far so good. Excellent job on the behalf of the MS staff.

It happens a lot more than though
Someone else's anecdotal evidence is true life for a lot of us. My girlfriend swears by the iPod, so much so that she's put up with the big ****** Smiley Face on the display and a dead battery. While that probably doesn't seem like much for a year, it's a hell of a lot of problems for a $300 device.
While she continues to use a replacement iPod (as Apple generously replaced) it's only a matter of time until this one croaks. All the while, my Zen has gone through hell and back!
I know it was hell because I saw mofo there!

Typical Schmuck
You're speaking of a topic that should ring in your ears as a mac fanboy...as chances are you don't know much about the company.

Couldn't agree more
You are very correct on these topics. Innovator.....?? Only with case design!
The only part of the iPod developed by Apple was done in cgi and it's the case itself. They dished out a design form factor of what they wanted it to look like and told the various 5 companies this is what you have to work with.
That's not innovation at all.
