3rd - There was no competition for MS in the 90s. Apple was useless and was stomped by Windows 95 while Jobs was away.

Microsoft's (or should I say Bill Gates') stated dream was to put a computer in every home. I'd say with 90% market share, his success is pretty hard to deny.

On topic: I hope Windows Mobile puts up a nice fight. The iPhone has a strong start; Palm's WebOS has a ton of hype; Android had a "meh" start, but has exciting possibilities in its wake, and RIM is off being RIM. The smartphone space is about to get really exciting. In reply to: "Microsoft aiming to recover lost ground in mobile"

    spare us the apple dribble.

every thread. every god damn time. you have a mac, get over it. so do i, but i seem to have something that's rare amongst mac users.

it's called modesty, with a dash of manners.

  • Agreed.
I'm still in high school and I see this every day. If you think you're kids don't do it, limit txt messaging and see what they say. My school's policy is to have them off, but you can't go a class without seeing them, and you know what... I do it too.

While I do disagree that a city-wide ban on student cell phones is a little extreme.. Leave it up to the schools; they may come up with the same conclusion. but if they deem it neccessary, so be it. Let their be restrictions where it's needed, and none when their isn't.

..and having a widget verifier that has to check home every eight hours is too.

Anywho, I'd really like the design to have a stronger resemblence to the Xbox 360. Since Apple owns the wheel patent (or soon will, I haven't followed that story), it'll be hard for MS just to come out and copy it. Other than that, I don't see the big resemblence. It's white, so? It'll come in different colors.. just like the iPod. The screen doesn't resemble anything iPod. And last time I checked, iPods don't have buttons outside the wheel.

i welcome MS to the competition. They're fighting an uphill battle against Apple, and they are going to have to come up with some true new features and improve on the iPod if they want to succeed. In reply to: "Microsoft's Argo sails into iPod waters"

  • meh..
I don't think it's the best browser out there, but I do prefer it over FireFox.

Since I'm not some idiotic "noob" downloading everything and its mother, i've had no viruses. And it seems from the story that they're adding stuff IE already has.

But good for Mozilla. If it weren't for them, there'd probably be no IE7 Beta 3 out now (heck, I might still be using IE6.. blegh).

" I promise you that Linux won't demand WGA! "

Of course it wont. You can't really steal an OS based in Open Source, so no one would find anything wrong with you taking it. If you're going to be Anti-MS, at least be informed. Show me you're just not another sheep.

  • They're doing hardware already
..and they're doing it well. Wireless keyboards, high-definition web cameras, LCD monitors, and the Xbox 360. FYI, internet forum posters are a vocal minority. I have a launch 360 and so do many of my friends and no problems have happened. I've had this computer for two years, running Windows XP, and it has crashed once.

Whilst my iPod Nano has crashed 3 times in the 2 months I've owned it. iTunes has idiotically copied my entire music library, and I now have to go through manually and link up the right song to the iTunes program. iTunes has also developed a habit of loading itself at inconvenient (and unprovoked) times.

If this player is all it's cracked up to be, it will be my next. Bad experiences with Apple (although I admit, some are uncommon when I talk to people about it, apart from the iPod crashing) have left a sour taste in my mouth.

Bring on the competition. In reply to: "More details on Microsoft's iPod killer"

  • I thought..
.. you could use a Mac right out of a box? Surely that's what those Mac vs. PC commercials un by Apple would have you believe. Have you seen the box one?
