I wonder who is desperate enough for an internet browser of all things (you know, cause FF and Opera are hard to come by) that they'd download from some dubious website instead of waiting a couple months.

I bet this is actually The Telegraph exaggerating the story to make it sound more sensational. Riding that wave of LHC fearmongering to make some extra money. In reply to: "Hackers break into Large Hadron Collider computer"

I have been texting a bit since my early tweens but I really prefer voice conversation when possible. I like the QWERTY keyboards but I can see how someone with larger fingers might hate them.I use the T9 right now and it takes some getting used to. I only really text with people who insist on texting because they are frugal and it's cheap here in Europe. I probably send/receive about 100 SMS a month, so I'm not a heavy user. I hope you realize how ridiculous the statement about status symbol is. A company does not care about being a status symbol, they care about the bottomline.
But on the other hand I understand that this snobbish "I'm better than everybody else because I own a Mac" attitude is a feature that unfortunately tends to distinguish Apple fanboys. It's OK, I'll keep my laptop that is light years ahead of Macs in hardware and cost me less than even starter model Macbooks.

Maybe it's because I personally wouldn't pay this much for a netbook, but I don't think there's really a market for this kind of laptop. The people who want a luxury portable will opt for a Macbook Air or something in that category. I think the point of netbooks is keeping them fairly simple and definitely keeping the price down. I think this is a miss for ASUS. In reply to: "Is the Asus N10 still a Netbook for $849?"

I own an Ipod classic and honestly it's an OK mp3 player, I get a lot of use out of it, but all the rabid Apple fanboism (like "All MS products are crap, Apple can do no wrong") make me kind of embarrassed to be seen with the IPod because I can't help but feel that people think I'm one of those fanboys. I cannot help but wonder who exactly outside of industry insiders needs up to the minute updates from the Apple events. It is just an mp3 player/phone upgrade announcement, not the second coming of Christ. In reply to: "Apple watchers spot 'iPod Nano' pix, iTunes hints"

I actually got one of these last month when they first came out. So far I'm really liking it, it's got a great screen and runs all of my games really well and I'm glad I only spent $1640 for the base model (I agree that BluRay is overkill for most people). The build feels very solid and there's no "wobbly" feeling in any parts on my laptop, also hinges feel strong. The few gripes with it I have are the back panel which is a total fingerprint magnet and the speakers are a bit soft for my taste. But I normally use it with a headset anyway so the latter point is pretty moot in my case. Also I get a lot of use out of the Express Gate feature but this may be not be exclusive to this laptop, I'm not sure.
Bottomline is I think this is a great value for people needing a solid gaming machine but not wanting to spend 3k+ on boutique brand laptops.
