  • Well, the long version isn't really any more understandable than the short version.

It starts with the older woman asking the dog if he's going to a town called Tosa. The dog says yes. Then, the younger woman asks if Tarantino is going along, whereupon he declares "I am Tara!"

At that point, in the long version, Tarantino does his samurai impression "Hai-ya! Samurai spirit!! Get him with the samurai sword! Ho-ha!" etc. The dog says "I'm determined to go to Tosa!" The older woman tells Tara to calm down, and he says "Yes". Then, the phone rings, the younger woman says "It's the phone", and the older woman says "It's your wife." Tara gasps. The wife asks for Tara, he responds with another "I am Tara!", then she yells "Get home right now!"

That's pretty much the gist of it. I only watched it once, so maybe I missed some minor stuff. Overall, it's just another Japanese ad featuring an American celeb. They almost never make sense. Just search for the ones that Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sean Connery did over there. They're just as silly. In reply to: "Tarantino's cheerily crazy Japanese cell phone ad"

  • How about spending $1.25 on a roll of paper towels to wipe off the wet cans after plucking them out of the ice chest? Then, the remaining $448.74 can go towards something useful... like buying more beer. In reply to: "Slippery beer cans no more"

  • Although it doesn't say anything on their website, I suspect that they must wash out these bags and wrappers before they turn them into speakers and other items. Otherwise, I can imagine what it would be like to be smelling rancid cheezies while listening to your iPod. :-) In reply to: "Cheetos bags find new life as MP3 speakers"

  • The photographer's caption (on his Flickr site) states: "Was it a hoax? Watching CNN live on the plane is cool."

So, yes, it's a small monitor on the back of a plane's seat. In reply to: "NASA addresses Balloon Boy dad's end-of-the-world theory"

  • Back in my high school days (the early '80s), my best friend's Dad bought a pair of 901s. I went over to look at them and my friend points at the cone-shaped vents on the rear of the cabinets and says "You know why they sound so good? Because they're jet-powered!"

I'll remember that goofy comment for the rest of my life! :-) In reply to: "Poll: What's your favorite audio product of all time?"

  • It's hard to get a handle on what the real story is behind these firings. Green Isle says it fired the three workers for looking at porn. The union says that the workers were actually reading redundancy proposals (i.e. letters outlining how Green Isle is restructuring and who is getting laid off).

If the former is true, then the workers probably deserve to be fired. If the latter, then it sounds like Green Isle is engaging in a bit of union-busting.

As for who is making the pizzas while the workers are striking... As with any strike, the managers usually fill in wherever they can. Assuming that the factory is automated, then they're probably making as many pizzas now as they were before the strike. Where the problem lies is in the receiving/shipping and warehousing/distribution end of the business. Perhaps in sales, too. You can make as many pizzas as you want, but if you can't move them out of the factory, then it's pointless. In reply to: "Striking Internet porn pizza workers offer resolution"

  • I suppose that Surface turned on its side (as MSNBC did during the 2008 presidential election) would qualify as a touch-screen wall computer. In reply to: "Friday Poll: Which gadget will Microsoft try next?"

  • Those kinds of things are already covered by broader regulations, such as "Careless Driving" and "Driving Without Due Care And Attention". The government probably wants a law that specifically targets texting while driving because of the studies that show that texting can be much more distracting than those other activities.

  • philholt--2008,

Loek Jehee, the developer of Split&Concat, says that he'll have a 10.6-compatible version (v3.0) ready soon. It'll show up on his website (http://www.xs4all.nl/~loekjehe/Split&Concat/), or perhaps on one of the app update sites (e.g. VersionTracker, MacUpdate, Softpedia, etc.). In reply to: "Apple knowledgebase update: AirPort status menu, iPhones not recognized."
