  • This is a well-known arguement...........
and I agree totally! It is the users with a little bit of knowledge and under the implression they know more than they do that cause the greatest problems.

Lets educate them to have a healthy paranoia and work them into an environment whereby good working practices and not blind faith in an operating system lead the way

  • Is education not more important?
I run several networks of varying sizes mostly running Windows servers and workstations, Linux in the DMZ, MAC's in design and there is one common truth: Although Windows may be regarded as insecure, good end-user training results in safer and more secure Internet working.

I am not a Microsoft evangelist but I do find that having the smallest amount of paranoia creates a much better networking environment.

My opinion of alot (please note I did not say ALL) *nix groups or users is that they believe their environment is secure and unbreakable. This is certainly true in alot of cases but just wait: When more people use *nix as they inevitably will, more viruses will be released to beat it.

The fact is, if we educate users to have a healthy paranoia regardless of environments, we will have a much more manageable and secure IT life in general!
