I see this debate over and over again. Each person should use the machine and operating system that is best suited to them and their tasks.
Both lines of computers have evolved to the point where they are quite nice. Yes, I expect Windows 7 to be better than Winodws Vista. i imagine the Mac OS in 64 bit will be an improvement also.

Thank you for the interesting article and thanks also the the commenters who added additional information.
I live in Canada, where Rogers, the GSM carrier, appears to charge about 10 times the amount that AT&T charges for data roaming. This makes using a device in Europe a far more serious proposition. Windows Smartphone (Sorry Microsoft) : $100/day using email only. Blackberry (on another carrier): $35 for ten days. Rogers courteously adjusted the bill, but that was still a lot of money.
What I'd like to have is some information about getting a local prepaid data stick and using it in Europe. With hotels charging £15 per day for internet, the stick is not such a bad option!

Comcast and any other network should be allowed to manage their bandwidth as they see fit in order to ensure that everyone has equal access (and that p2p programs don't soak up everything).
This should of course be disclosed, but it should not be illegal. I don't use a lot of bandwidth, but I do need my internet to work too, and not have the likes of GlenAllen use it all up. If he wants to use his fair share, fine, but not gobble up everything that isn't being used at the moment.

You actually can buy a Mac laptop without paying for a copy of Windows. I would rather have MIcrosoft writing the operating system with stablity and interoperability in mine (which are MY concerns and BENEFIT the consumer), rather than have a judge and competitors write it so that Real player can have their "adware" player or so that hackers can get in. If programmers had any REAL interest in following Microsoft documentation, why are so many apps not Vista compatible? Because they ignored protocols and guidlines and did what they jolly well pleased, which were poor programming practices.
I buy windows because I want to, not because of the market share. If I wanted a Mac or a Linux laptop, I'd surely get one. Leave the programming to the programmers.

Much improvement needed
The last 4 times I have called Dell tech support, they have pretty much tried everything in the book to try get rid of me. Anything except solve the problem. The last 2 times, they have been condescending as well. Pretty much wanting to not do business with them if they keep that up. My troubleshooting, by the way, has been effective.

Instead of feeling sorry for the poor single mother of two, who apparently, according to the court, DID illegally offer to share music on a peer to peer network, why don't you do an article on the poor starving musician who cannot make ends meet and dejectedly watches their music distributed peer to peer with no money coming in.
The message is clear: DON'T steal things, DON'T help others steal things, DON'T break the law, and DON'T expect the fact that you're a single mother with "proud indian blood" should gain you sympathy. Was it your "proud indian blood" that prompted you to share files in the first place?
I'm sick of hearing about this. The money award is too much, but then again, there would be more of an uproar if there was jail time wouldn't there.

wrong subject
This isn't about a bar that's a profit making enterprise. This is about sharing music from people's homes instead of buying it.
The bar issue is an entirely different issue. Don't confuse the two.

Don't share files
I don't have the evidence in front of me to say whether she is guilty or not, but the people who did, the jurors, pronounced her guilty.
Far too many people share music files and think lightly of it. People seem to have decided there is nothing wrong with it, forgetting that it is someone else's intellectual property. There is something wrong with it, it is illegal, and although the $220,000 fine is huge, she had a choice to settle, and had a choice before that to not share files.
People are still sharing files and so this is going to continue until it becomes punitive financially and people realize they have to stop.
RIAA if you are listening, you have won your case, now it would be a good idea to both go to the court and settle for $5000 or $10000. The point has been made.

Even worse
Skype works even worse than vonage..and they'll charge you if you use it from outside north america, even if you have a north america unlimited plan...
As for ebay paying 2.6 billion dollars for skype, a fool and their money are soon parted. That has to be the most foolish acquisition price of my lifetime.

Not compelling to pay
When I got a skypein number last year, it was $30. Now it is $70. Am I going to renew? NO. Overpriced.
Furthemore, the unlimited North America plan is fine..except if you happen to travel. Why am I going to pay by the minute if I happen to take my computer to Europe (and pay for the internet connection there)? They are not going to make money because they are not being fair, it is not reasonable and someone else is going to get the business.
