Project G's support ... or not ...
The Gutenberg Project, although terrific from the "get-go," was underfunded and marketed primarily to the educational institutions and communities. (We already know that this is 10 degrees of separation from Google funding!)
If Google sticks to public domain materials and doesn't violate copyright laws (in 2006), they could potentially wait long enough for publishers (self & commercial) to relent on contract rights or face obvious, multiple lawsuits and pay out with ease.

American innovation gone awry!
Disney was certainly NOT the first, nor the last to reinvent a computer desktop or interface specifically for kids. A major difference between the pacesetters and pioneers of earlier (80's - 90's) innovative digital hardware for kids were the manufacturing partnerships that were homegrown or affiliated with Canada and not outsourced to Germany.
