  • Hey squezz - dude, go take your medication.

I have no clue why people cheer wholeheartedly when a company replaces a product with one of heir own that is at best a poor copy and at worst downright dangerous.

btw: if his was going to be a quick fix you really think Apple would have done his redirect?

  • The potential mess we see from ebooks arising in music and Apple is involved?
It would be great to see this on Apple but let's not not do it at the detriment of the consumer.

  • While I may not totally agree with you, there are a lot of folks who are dependent on the map app on their iPhone. These are the people who are getting screwed over. They have been gifted with an incomplete and incorrect map. Depending their level of sophistication, these new maps could lead them to a place that could place their life in jeopardy.

To me, the work released smacks of amateur hour.

  • To dennisheadley and boydp182
Yuu ignorant buffoons have a lot to learn.

To quote Apple: "The more people use it, the better it will get."

To me this is monumentally ignorant.
The people who really need a dependable map will use something else. This means they won't be submitting fixes ... corrections. So all you will get are the diehard users of "anything for iOS" and those that take the occasional time to submit. It's gonna take a long time to get to Googles or Nokias level.

I need a dependable map. I'll use my Nexus and webmaps on my i5. Will I submit any corrections? No. Why should I.

As for Google Maps and Apple, do a bit of research instead of quoting headlines. Basic Google Maps and Google Maps with advanced features have different licensing. If Apple wanted turn by turn they needed the new license. Problem is Apple wanted it on their terms. Apple could have waited another year but obviously felt turn by turn was too important.

  • To all those who thinks Apple doesn't use your data just like Google and other similar companies, ask yourself why a growing number of big companies are restricting iCloud and Siri interaction but not on Google Drive and Google Now.
It's not the fact that they use it, but that Apple refuses to disclose what is does with the data, how it protects the data and who is allowed access to it.
To me, that is far scarier than Google telling me up front how it is going to do this.

If you believe Apple is a "good guy", yup, I too have some prime water-enriched real estate to sell you.

  • Smacks - you are spot on.
For the other nay say reply folks to you, Google has a set license agreement if you want Google maps with advanced features like voice and turn by turn. (Make an inquiry to Google and find out).
This looks a lot like Apple wanted a favorable deal and Google was unwilling to do that. In spite, Apple rushed out Apple Maps which is likely a good couple years away from being even moderately close to Google or Nokia Maps and cropped the current deal a early.
So now they will be way behind both Android and Win phones for at minimum one year and likely longer.
As an iPhone owner, I'm pissed. Glad I still have my Nexus.

  • Judging by the ads I see, I agree.
The ads from Apple have been slipping and seem repetitive.
The ads from other OEM's have improved and appear fresher and more relevant.

Not a surprise. Most competitive ads of this type are cyclic in their effectiveness.
